The Chicago Fire ousted Atlanta United from the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup on Wednesday night.  Atlanta dominated the possession category, but the 5 Stripes could not push the ball across the line.

Nemanja Nikolić scored the lone goal of the match (’54) for the Fire.  This sends the 5 Stripes home early for the second consecutive year in the Open Cup.  Last season, Miami FC defeated Atlanta at the death in the round of 16.  This year was all too familiar for Atlanta, as they conceded another round of 16 defeat.

Atlanta squares off next on Sunday, June 24 with the Portland Timbers.  The 5 Stripes will return to MLS action against the Timbers inside Mercedes-Benz-Stadium.
